Mayors’ Monarch Pledge

No category

At the Monday, March 20 meeting of the Pontiac City Council, a motion to sign the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge through the National Wildlife Federation was approved, recognizing Pontiac’s efforts to save the Monarch butterfly through community efforts to plant native pollinator plants in downtown flowerbeds and educate the community about the plight of the monarch butterfly.

The pledge reads “Pontiac, IL is a city in central Illinois with a population of 11,000. The city is located on Historic Route 66 and welcomes thousands of visitors each year. We are proud of the welcome we give our human visitors and want to extend that same welcome to the monarch butterflies whose migration patterns travel over our community. Mayor Alvey and the city staff are dedicated to stopping the decline of our state insect by signing the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and creating pollinator habitats throughout the community.”

Downtown Pontiac is thrilled to be playing a role in these initiatives and is excited to continue working with residents and business owners to keep Downtown Pontiac the vibrant and thriving community we can all be proud of.
