Rockin’ at the River with Union AvenueJoin us at the Humiston-Riverside Band Shell on Thursday, June 1st from 7 – 9PM for another fantastic concert in our Rockin’ at the River Summer Concert Series! These concerts are supported by generous grants from the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation and the Yost Trust, as well as from our Platinum Sponsors Boldt Home Improvement, Heartland Community College of Pontiac, Streator Onized Credit Union, and Country Financial. To see the complete list of sponsors, visit the website, downtownpontiacil.com.
About Union Avenue:
Founded in August of 2021, Union Avenue had a grand plan to bring authentic rockabilly music to the public. Formed by seasoned musicians, from inception to first show was a mere month! The recipe of astounding vocals supported by vintage electric guitar, upright “slap style” bass, and rock-inspired drums was an instant hit with audiences.
The energy vibrance of the early 1950’s rockabilly movement is showcased along with rowdy Jump Blues and some early country music. Rare, unissued songs from the “Sun Records era” are foundational, as well as new takes on some more recent cuts from not only the United States, but also from impressive rockabilly and country artists from Europe.
Christopher Myers fronts the band in 1950’s era clothing which brings an authentic visual element to the stage, while his incredible vocals sonically capture the audience. Supported by hypnotizing slap bass rhythms by Steve Knecht and driven by the powerful drumbeats of Chris Manzella, song after song draws the audience in wondering what will happen next! Union Avenue’s grand plan to bring authentic rockabilly music to the public has been a great success! Come and see it for yourself… and be prepared to have a great rockin’ time!
Rockin’ at the River Concerts are family-friendly, free, and open to the public. Food vendors will have items for sale, or you can bring your own picnic! Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on; a small number of chairs will be available if you did not bring your own. Please remember that all parks are smoke and alcohol free.
In the case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to The Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center.
