Social District

Welcome To The Downtown Pontiac
Social District

The City of Pontiac is thrilled to introduce the Downtown Social District! As this new ordinance takes effect, we want to ensure everyone has the information they need to make it a success.

What To Know

What Is A Social District?

A Social District is a designated area downtown where, during city-sanctioned or approved events (such as the Farmers Market, Light Parade, Cruise Nights, etc.), patrons 21 and older can purchase alcoholic beverages from participating vendors and enjoy them while walking within the district boundaries.

What Are The Rules?

The key rule is simple: drinks must stay within the district boundaries (see map/street sign on the next page). Any beverage leaving a building must be in a district-approved cup. These cups—provided by participating vendors—are clear plastic with the Social District logo on one side and the vendor’s logo on the other.

Can I Bring My Drink Into Any Other Businesses?

Not every business will allow alcohol inside. Please be respectful and look for the Social District window sticker (example on the next page) to know if a business welcomes drinks.
